Still alive and the cat is starting to venture out from under the bed more. Might even start flushing toilet soon (I'm holding off on that as last time we were told it was ok by the council people the civil defense was still saying absolutely not, so I'm being cautious, meanwhile still using rubbish bag, kitty litter and digging into garden or ( Read more... )

I'm glad you did, and I'm glad you're OK. My god, though... all those historic and beautiful buildings. :/

Poor kitty. I recall that when we had what was a very minor earthquake (a few items fell off shelves, and that was the extent of the damage) my cats hid under the couch for the rest of the day. I'm glad that your kitty is starting to feel brave enough to venture out.

It sounds so very sad and heartbreaking to hear about all those lovely buildings being destroyed. (I'm going to avoid talking about the people and the casualties too.)

No toilets yet? Yikes. I realize that this is probably not a high priority at the moment, but I've lived without a toilet once or twice for a couple of days, not even because of natural disaster (because of plumbing issues) and it was very unpleasant, so I can imagine it's not fun for you or your neighbours either.

I am happy to see an update from you, though!

It isn't that the toilets aren't high priority but the sheer amount of damage that needs to be fixed to stop raw sewerage from going onto roads or into rivers or estury. Lots of broken pipes and the sewerage processing plant isn't working.

That said those of us with water and with no nearby broken pipes are allowed to use toilet, shower and washing machine sparingly. Am looking forward to washing my hair tonight :)

If it stands long enough for them to be able to safely do that. Although it is sounding more hopeful, I saw something saying it hadn't moved in about a day.
