It's camp time :D

Jul 01, 2013 22:20

So apparently I signed up for Camp Nanowrimo literally at the last minute, meaning yesterday :) I'm kinda excited, I've never done anything like this and even though I only set myself a goal of 20k, that's still twice as much as I've ever written in a month! Does one of my lovely flisters have any experience with Nanowrimo and some tips for me?

What I'm writing... )

brothers'verse, fanfic, challenges, camp nanowrimo, f'list love

I wrote a couple of Nanowrimo "Survival Guide" type posts on my blog awhile back, I think. Part I and Part II. I've been participating in Nano since 2002 (wow, I feel old) and the thing I can tell you is take care of yourself. Seriously, Nano is about going crazy and writing an insane amount of stuff, but don't risk your health! Baby yourself, and keep records. They have scorecards that'll help you (or hinder you, if you're feeling you're not living up to your standards). By the end of the month, I'm always glad that I kept with a scorecard.

And of course I will be here to cheer you on. If you have gchat, I'm right2befrea (at) gmail and am always willing to engage in a word war!

Good luck!!!

Oh, I'll have a look at the "Survival Guides" right away, thanks for the link! An wow, that's a long time writing, while I was just sitting on my ass and reading ;) And I'm not gonna attempt 50k right away, but good timp about the scorecards, I'm gonna look into those as well.

And yay for cheering on, I have added you on google talk (so if you see a weird username popping up, that might be me :) And even more yay for word wars!

Thanks a mill :D

Pick a time of day and force yourself to write during that time, even if you don't feel inspired + write whenever you feel inspired (I carry my laptop around every November so I can bang out fifty words if I have to wait a few minutes for something).

Good luck!

Oh, that's a really good tip. I'm gonna do that right now! Write and all :) I can't take my laptop to work, but I always send myself my text files there to write if I have an idea and a couple of minutes to take a breath.

Thanks!

Duuuuude, you are a brave soul :-):-)
And I totally believe in you! You can do this, because if I could write 7.000 words last night, I think you can do 20.000 words in a month, totally know you can do it, because the story you are doing is sooooooooooooo awesome and if you will jump in it and get yourself lost in it, you, heck, you can even write 30.000 words in a month... :-)
I have faith in you! :-):-):-) wooohoooo :-):-)
*huggles you* if you need anything, you know where to find me.... and I can not wait to see&read the end result :-)
And remember, google is your best friend. Sometimes wiki too ;-)

Hahaha, I really hope I can do it, and woman, you are crazy!!!! 7000 words in one night???? I can't do that, at least I haven't yet, but I'm willing to try :D And yay, I really hope that the story will remain as awesome as you say it is already, BECAUSE THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT :D:D:D:D *huggles you*
And man, you're having more faith in me than I do, I think. But I'll try my best :D
Oh, I already googled and wiki'd too ;) And yeah, good stuff, good stuff :D

Follow whatever rules you find but remember the most important one... HAVE FUN! Revel in the fact that you have to write EVERY DAY and that there's incredible stress to keep up the word count AND to beat anyone else's word count just because you can. Take chances with your story that you might not any other month of the year. Be open to writing a few thousand words only to find out that they don't work. Don't throw them away because all words work and you never know when you may be able to use that particular scene.

And I said have fun, remember? If you aren't having fun, you aren't at the right camp! *grins*

Thanks for the tips, I'll be sure to heed them :) It's really hard for me to turn off my inner editor, as that's just the way I'm wired at the moment, but I'm having fun with this :D

And I think I'm at the right camp! Chocolate and marshmallows be damned, I'm writing and having fun :D

(And I love your icon *g*)
