Another quote that hits right to the point of the challenge. I think Spenser could have been helped if people had tried harder with him. BUt everyone was at a fractious stage when he was descending they could see past themselves. He ad TJ were cutting up in Time (we actually saw Spenser laughing). While Spenser wasn't the most cuddly of men, Young missed several opportunities to engage Spenser rather than yelling at him.
I have to agree that probably everyone was too occupied with his/her own mysery to notice that something is wrong with Spencer. Although unless Spencer admits his pill addiction, it would have been really difficult to figure in time. I assume he was also not awfully popular when they were still on Icarus base.
I'm afraid Young is not a shrink, and he treated Spencer as he would have treated any other soldier. To be fair I think he expected that their training will help his soldiers to somehow handle the situation (and he was somewhat at loss when James told him in Air that she feels just as screwed as any of the civilians...).
True, Young isn't a shrink, but I'm sure he knows how to listen. In Spencer's case it was once again bad circumstances, because when he threw him against the wall he was essentially protecting Frankling, because Spencer would have beat him up there in the corridor - I have no doubts about that. So Young went into protective mode. And he couldn't just throw Spencer out, so again circumstances made this situation even more difficult. Everybody was on edge and scared. Crap like that does weird things even to very stable individuals.
Well, he is a good listener, but you can only hear things that are said.
Also, when Young grabbed Spencer to protect Franklin (btw, that always impressed me how he manhandled a guy one head taller...) and wasn't he also releasing some steam with regard to Telford and the wife???
