Ok everyone, I don't want to offend anyone with this question but this is something I have been wondering about ever since I saw Shelter years a go. For some reason I don't recall this particular topic ever being discussed, which is strange. Who do you think is the top and who do you think is the bottom? I know a lot of people write Shaun as the ( Read more... )

That's a perfectly reasonable question! I do think of Shaun as the top, mainly because, as you say, he's older and more experienced. Of course, I've only written fic that takes place pretty close to the movie timewise (at least, fic that includes sex). I do think that the longer they're together, the more comfortable Zach becomes, the more he's going to want to take charge. Right now he's new to everything. That said, I think I still see Shaun topping for the most part. I picture Zach as more of a pushy bottom, telling Shaun exactly how he wants it. *g*

I think Shaun is the top. Because they have this relation as student/teacher and I really that Shaun teach a lot of things to Zach including sex. So, even if Zach could lead some things between them, Shaun is clearly the leader! But, in time, Zach will learn and will be on top!

(sorry if you don't really understand what i want to say :s it's not my mother tongue)

Personally, I see them both as versatile.

Same especially once Zach gets comfortable with the idea and starts to do some exploration.

I think you may be right, variety is the spice of life after all.

I love imaging their dynamics. I definitely see these two as versatile. To me, they both seem fairly middle-of-the-road on the masculinity spectrum-- not to say they're not masculine, but they don't strike me as "butch," per se (although many butches are bottoms, which is a whole other layer of human complexity). Their mannerisms, to me, seem that they would have a more neutral approach to roles, where they switch off regularly and are very accommodating toward what the other wants and feels at any given time. I see their control ever-shifting, where sometimes Shaun's the top and Zach's the bottom, sometimes Zach's the top and Shaun's the bottom, sometimes Shaun initiates and sometimes Zach, etc. I'm sure Zach needs some time to become comfortable taking control with Shaun, and wonders about his inexperience as compared to Shaun's other sexual relationships, but I see Zach as a passionate lover (given how he attacked Shaun that night like a wild lion in heat!), and I'm sure he'll get more comfortable fully "taking" Shaun as their ( ... )
