I don't even know what's worse: that they had the balls to even try this, or that they seem to be drinking their own Kool-Aid and actually believe they're right about this.
And yeah. I can see a good argument being made for fanfic as an educational thing as it is a good way for writers to hone their craft but this? No. Just no.
I can absolutely understand wanting to cover server costs, but you'd think that the first thought would be, "Hey, let's roll out a fundraiser." Not: "Let's apply for a $25k charity grant."
I think they tried to get user donations. I know Heidi was posting about "please donate for server costs" a while ago... I don't think anyone gave anything and that's why they're doing this.
But even then... advertising should have been the first choice.

I'm pretty annoyed - and remembering what I do about CM ... I knew you'd have something to say.

There's an autism charity - guess what I think is much more deserving of my vote?

Now I'm glad I did.
I can understand wanting to cover server costs so it doesn't come out of pocket, but they're not a charity and they don't deserve a grant.

I agree; they don't deserve a grant.
