So what the heck is it?

A couple of months ago (geez, have I been here that long already?) I bought a beautiful serving bar. But there were, and still are, a couple of mysteries attached to it.

I invite my flist to to go look at these pictures and see if they can come up with an idea or two about what a couple of things that are a part of this bar might be ( Read more... )

My guess is that you'd put those little pour spouts with levers (not sure what they're called, but I've seen them in bars occasionally) on the bottles instead of caps then put them in those holes upside down, for easy pouring.

Did that make sense? I've had a couple pamprin and am having trouble articumalating myself. XD

Do you mean a seltzer bottle? Like in the old Three Stooges shows?

Lol, not exactly, though I suppose that would work too. I mean regular booze bottles. There's these stoppers you can get with a pour spout, you have to press a button to get the booze to come out in a more controlled fashion than just pouring straight from the bottle as usual. Kind of like those funky wine stoppers except with a pour spout.

The small hole are for wine bottle stoppers. The fancy ones you use on an open bottle that will be opened and used completely. The larger holes could be for a couple things. A shaker cup comes to mind. There are so many things you can buy for a bar, the list is pretty long. Hit a top of the line liquor store or winery. You'll see everything possible.

I have a cocktail shaker - the hole is too big for it.

And the bar is from the thirties - which is something I probably should have mentioned in the original post. Have wine stoppers been around that long?

There are two of the things - one in each door. That would be eight shot glasses and two shakers.

Would that still make sense?

Sorry - editing. I have a shaker and the hole is *way* too big for it. It's wider than a standard bottle of wine or even a non-standard bottle.

Jenny suggested a seltzer bottle - would that be a lot bigger than a bottle of wine?

Considering the bar is supposed to be from the thirties or forties, that might be right then....

Why would anyone need *two* seltzer bottles - besides the Three Stooges, that is?

I swear we already had a post about what those holes were for. I said all the bar accoutrements (shaker/strainer, jigger cups, etc.). I think Jenny and Toshua are more correct than I am though.

Now that you mention it, we may have had such a post in the past. But, if so, I don't think there were any satisfying conclusions made.

Found it: http://shelaghc.livejournal.com/676085.html#cutid1
But yeah, you're right, there wasn't any conclusion made about it.
