It's the eve of the great "Kitchen Improvement Project" at the Sullivan house and we have been packing the pots,pans, plates, etc into boxes and preparing to do without. The contractors are coming Thursday morning and the controlled destruction will commence. They are gutting the kitchen down to the floor supports,then they will replace the

I did my kitchen and the surrounding areas in 1999. We were able to schedule the demolition portion to be be done when we were out of town.

For the duration (much much longer than the stated time!), we cooked on our bbq grill or the separate old microwave oven, and washed a few dishes in the laundry room sink. I felt like I was camping out in my own home.

But when it was done,I had (and still have) the kitchen of my dreams. I can now talk with my family and guests while I'm cooking or cleaning up.

We have the spare room set up with a small fridge, the microwave and the Keurig machine. I think we are planning on using disposible plates, bowls, and flatwear. With a few mugs washed in the bathroom sink. And eating out a lot. Like you said camping in our own home.
When it's all done we will have a great kitchen and have solved some of our existing plumbing problems. Just have to live through it - at least we have a reliable contractor
