I thought the appeal to Jack's duty--in the need to get the intelligence that the tok'ra had gathered was enough in keeping with his character to be willing to buy it. It doesn't quite work out so happily for Jack, though, as you'll see in a couple of episodes. (Which, by the way, I think is one of the very best episodes of the series.)

For the most part, although I think it's not a particularly popular one amongst the fandom I like season 6 quite a bit.

hmm... I could kind of buy into that, I guess. Jack is the one character who started with the most fleshing out, I think, and as the other characters have grown up around him it sometimes seems like it's hard to figure out what to do with him.
