Man 86 sucked for music or at least "pop" music

I read this idea on chvytrk's LJ and figured why not. Didn't really realize just how bad that year was for music. Or at least music that got played on TV or MTV. The stuff I listened to was awesome but it certainly didn't get on the radio.

1985 turns out to be a pretty good year, if you like pop. Which I do. At least, I like 1985 pop. :) I took a look at Travis' list. He got jacked, big time, in high school. Looks like the Glory Days of New Kids on the Block and Milli Vanilli. Neither one of which were around in My Day, thank God.

I had the luck of graduating at the dawn of the 90s (1991). Still plenty of crap, but a few warning shots off the bow of popular music appeared to warn of the impending alterna-plosion. I still think of the 90s as a dark time to music overall, but I think of most of the post 70s era as having the crappy music. I feel like it's long been the case that no good music is found in the charts - the good music is in people's homes.

Well, I counted the songs from 86 that I have in my Ipod or have had in my MP3 player in the last year and got 11.

Then there are about 75 other songs that I automatically skip or change the channel on when they show up. The rest are "ehhhh"
