Hamlet Picspam!

Apr 20, 2009 19:43

I bet those are two words you never thought you'd see together--that is, until David Tennant was Hamlet!

So, this will consist of lots of lovely and hilarious pictures, actual text from Hamlet, snippets from the Reduced Shakespeare Company, and commentary. And this is my first picspam, so fingers are crossed that all goes well!

Be warned: it's slightly massive.

Picture it: the battlements of Elsinore. Denmark. Time: a very long time ago.

Claudius: "Have we, as 'twere, with a defeated joy, with an auspicious and a dropping eye, with mirth in funeral and dirge in marriage, in equal scale weighing delight and dole, taken to wife."
Hamlet: "Wot?"

"The funeral baked meats did coldly furnish forth the marriage tables."

"O my prophetic soul!"

"I perchance hereafter shall think meet to put an antic disposition on."
Yeah, "antic disposition" = completely bonkers.

i.e. "Shiny!"

i.e. Q: "What do you read, my lord?" A: "Words, words, words."

i.e. "Alas, poor Yorick."
Yeah, I think having intimate conversations with the...deceased is a clear sign that "something is rotten in the state of Denmark."

"Look! Horatio, this is Yorick. Yorick, Horatio."

"This skull had a tongue in it--and could sing once! Then came the Nutrisystem Weight Loss Program!"
I do not understand this outfit! The rehearsal costume is so much better!

The newest craze at Elsinore: skull toss!

"You know, I'm really going to have to talk the prop department."

"The play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king!"
"These guys really aren't that great."

"I can so do this better!"..."Come, some music! Come, the recorders!"

"Now that's what I call music!"
Tux + open shirt + undone bowtie + barefoot = guh.
And did I mention I love the crooked crown?

"And that's how it's done...properly."
*ignores a certain set of mental images*

"Lady, may I lie in your lap?" *puppy eyes*

"I mean, my head in your lap?" *eyelash flutter*
This is absolutely my favorite picture ever! That smile and he's holding her hand! :D

"Yep, Claudius did it. Totally guilty."

"It was him, I tell you!"

"Now what do I do?"

"I should probably kill him. Revenge my father and all that..."

Hamlet and Laertes are both in love with Ophelia and have a duel over who loved her more. Claudius has placed a bet on Hamlet to trap him into participating.
"Now, play nice boys."

"A touch, a touch!"... "A very palpable hit!" Etc.
Yeah--we love him because of his "big sword."

Gertrude: "I am poisoned."

"And at the end of Act 5, they all kick the bucket."

"The rest is silence."
