A Guide to Recognizing Your Punctuation

As several of you know (well, mainly those of you with whom I converse on Twitter), I am editing/beta-ing stories for someone on fanfiction.net. Allegedly, she was once an English teacher, but her command of the English language is...a bit stunted. Periods where commas should be (and vice versa); incorrect use of parentheses, quotation marks, and ( Read more... )

randomness, housekeeping, eats shoots leaves

Hee--thanks!
And, apparently, it's something from one of the many Mario games? But it was made with those little melt-y beads! How cool is that?

Blinkie piano!
*ahem*

I've only recently played Mario, thanks to Friend. And I bet you have crafty skills! You must try. :) (Can you even still get those, though? I have the urge to go to the craft store and find out.)

This is awesome. Now if you had taught my English class I may might of had a better understanding of the bloody language. I think the verb is about the only thing I could ever point out in a sentence. =/

Thank you!
I think, sometimes, that people make things entirely more complicated than they should be. And it's kind of tragic when that happens with something that's kind of vital to everyday, you know?

Good Grief. I really need to prof-read before I hit the post button.
It is not all the difficult. I score brilliant on test, but in real world application the Language Arts seem to fail me. See like right now. It sounds like there is a pause between Application and The. I want to put a comma there, but don't know if it belongs or not. =/ Tempted to go back to school just to take some classes in writing.

Nah. We all do that. :)
At least you can do well on the tests. Life is filled with language, grammar, and punctuation conundrums!

This was the perfect beginning to my day! I enjoyed that very much. LMAO

It isn't surprising that you were able to fit a little Disney in there. ;)

I'm glad! :D

Of COURSE. Everything I do has either Disney or Shakespeare--or both. ;)

XD

Disney should so do a Shakespeare animated film.

It doesn't take much to get me going. ;) And the world needs this!

They are over-used sometimes. Basically, they're only acceptable in dialogue these days, and you still need to be careful.

No, you're right! I've had that same experience.

Hilarious and educational - love it. If only my English classes had been like this. I feel sorry for the hyphen, lol. Dr. Evil usage <3

Thanks!
And I have a feeling I'll be very much like this when I teach, but I'll get to do it with literature.

The hyphen is incredibly under-used; it's very sad. And Dr. Evil. I love Austin Powers. SO much. :D
