Not that I can offer a whole lot of assistance, given that I'm just about as busy evenings as Josh, but I think if you'd like to borrow a Kitty we'd be glad to send her down... Might even talk the Pooh into it, too. In other words, if we can help, please call.
I appreciate the offer, but I suspect having friends over would be more distracting than helpful. Even having Josh around is usually less productive-I get the best work done when he's out of the house. Most of the cleaning I'm doing involves putting stuff back where it belongs or making new spaces for it to belong if it doesn't have a space-that kind of cleaning is hard for people who don't live there to do. But thanks for the support!
I very much understand the feeling of wanting to prove yourself to your parents as a legitimate adult. There was a lot of that going on when we hosted thanksgiving. (Just don't leave a turkey carcass in the oven for eight days, and you'll have done better than we did.) :) Have fun.

Ooh...that sounds lovely to me, but my mom's not big on physical activities like that, so she'd probably be less thrilled. We were going to go see Josh sing that evening, but he's now been moved from the Aviara resort gig to a private party, so none of the people who were planning to come see him that night can get in. So that sucks. And now my mom is talking about church again, since that's what she usually does. I'm considering taking her to the Metropolitan Community Church services held just around the corner at the Center, since I would be much more comfortable at an openly gay-friendly place, but I'm not sure how she would feel about that...

I try not to voluntarily go to events filled with little children, otherwise that would sound good. I offered my mom a couple church options in the area: Unitarian Universalist, Greek Orthodox, Catholic, Metropolitan at the GLBT Center. None of them thrilled her (she's Presbyterian/Brethern). So now we're considering just renting some christmas movies and drinking hot cocoa, which sounds like a wonderful option to me. But at least I offered her the churches, and she chose not to go for it, so it's not me preventing her from going to church, so that's good.
*breaking out the pom poms and setting up the cheering section* Hang in there! I hope you have a lovely Christmas day.
My favorite non-church place to go on Christmas eve is Hotel Del Coronado. They have a gorgeous 20 foot tree that they decorate in a different theme every year, and the entire place is just beautiful. I talked Tali and co. into going with me when I did Christmas with them in 2003. And you might check out St. Paul's Cathedral Midnight Mass if you decide to go to church. It is a musical and ceremonial episcopalian service.
My mom's opposed to trying to drive and park places during Christmas weekend (she's difficult, isn't she? :) ), but I'm inclined to agree with her on this one. If we end feeling antsy and need to get out of the house for a bit after baking cookies, we'll keep the hotel del in mind.
I'd like to take my daughter to see/hear carolers somewhere, encostumed would be a bonus! Could you tell me when/where Josh' group sings, and are they costumed, and what types of songs they do? i.e. xmas pop or traditional or ...?
They're doing traditional xmas songs-the standard stuff (O Holy Night, jingle bells, etc) plus some older, less familiar pieces-in full elizabethan nobility costumes. They're singing every night up to and including christmas eve at the Four Seasons Aviara in Carlsbad, wandering through the lobby and spa and other places. They have a handful of other gigs as well, but I believe all of those are private parties. If you get a chance, you should pop up to carlsbad and see them. They sing from 6:30-8:30. I'll be there Thursday evening with Josh's parents! Tara & Josh will be singing with them Thrusday and Friday, but on Christmas eve it will be other Cheshire singer members at the Aviara, cause Josh and Tara are at another gig.
