good rant! its good to get things like this out :)

there are reasons that people are more sensitive to the 'you / steve' thing but its mostly to do with things that occured before you came about and i guess the group is just .. "untrusting" of the whole situation

there are always consequences - both positive and negative - to all relationships ... i guess you could be more aware that current group feelings arent going to go away anytime soon and that you may need to account for them if you want to minimise drama

Yeah, this is pretty much why I'm trying to get it all out in the open, you may say that 'current group feeling aren't going to go away any time soon' but they're never going to go away if we don't address the problem and put people's minds at ease.
