Oh, look, another (small) rant

Pet hate #24601:

People saying that a film is a remake of an earlier film, when in fact it is an adaptation of a book which happens to have been adapted before.

Have these people never heard of 'books'?

Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is not a frakking 'remake' of Willy Wonka.

films, rants, books

And Red Dragon IS NOT A REMAKE OF MANHUNTER!!! ('coz Manhunter - ROCKS and Red Dragon does not.)

I'd dispute that - I think they both rocked, but entirely different ways.

Definitely not a remake though. Where did people think all that stuff at the end of Red Dragon that wasn't in Manhunter came from?

Is there extra stuff at the end of Red Dragon? I've never actually seen it to the end - I watched about the first half hour and decided that I'd rather be watching Manhunter and couldn't be bothered to watch the same story minus William Petersen (as much as I like Ed Norton and think he's a great actor... baby Grissom!)

Red Dragon is closer to the book than Manhunter - while in Manhunter the story ends with the fire and Reba's rescue, in the book things aren't over yet and there's still some more plot to go. Most of which got used in Red Dragon.

While I'll acknowledge that Manhunter was a better film, I still enjoyed Red Dragon more because it did include a lot of stuff from the book (like Dollarhyde's backstory and the end plot) that wasn't in Manhunter.

I recommend reading the book (and Silence of the Lambs as well. Hannibal is best avoided though.)
