Opinion of Stardust?

Have any of you out there both read the book AND seen the movie, Stardust?

Soldier and I have both read the book and loved it and are leary of seeing the movie as a good deal of books gone cinema are just big let downs.

If you have read the book and saw the movie - tell us what you thought of it so we can decide if we will go see it.

Danke!

It was good, and it was different from the book (I haven't read the graphic novel, only the words-only novel).

Neil Gaiman did the adaptation, so even though it was different, it was very much in his magical style.

I recommend it!

I've read both versions of the book, and seen the movie.

The movie is good. The movie is not the book.

Much of the opening of the book is too slowly paced for a movie. Chunks were left out, and more was added. Gaiman himself seems happy with the results.

If you just go for a good story and don't need it to follow the book too closely, you should enjoy it.

Echoing what everyone said here -- the movie is not the book. The movie feels like a Neil Gaiman tale, very much in his style, but is definitely an adaptation of the story. It is not Hollywood ruining one of your favorite books.

You owe it to yourself to go see it just for DeNiro's performance. :)
