Johnnys’ Countdown 08-09 December 31st
Tokyo Dome was filled with fans as it got closer to midnight. The opening was being pushed back a little because Kinki Kids and Tokio were running a little late. Kouichi had taken over the Countdown a few months back and had rearranged Kinki Kids’ Osaka cons to be here.
Every debuted band since Tokio and V6 but JANE would be represented tonight. The Jumisho was spilt about that decision; they had a 14 year old member. JANE didn’t have sub-units like JUMP; the rules were clear no one under a certain age was allowed to perform at a Countdown. Daiki was 17 and BEST was going to perform. Hikaru and Taiyou had been 16 last year but they had still preformed. Tackey, Julie and Mary had decided that it was best if JANE sat this year out…
Jin smirked, he was glad; these bitches didn’t belong. He could smell and see them; they were sitting with HS7 and Kusano. He pitied Kusano; the guy didn’t need to be around them. He’d heard a rumor that his friend was friends with them…he hoped it wasn’t true.
The announcer began the live event, “Johnny’s Countdown 2008-2009. TOKIO…”
Nagase ran out winking, his band behind him.
“V6.”
Inohara. Go, Junichi, Ken, Hiroshi and Masayuki yelled at they took the stage.
“Kinki kids.”
The fans screamed, they weren’t supposed to be here…
Kouichi walked out on stage, he was holding Tsuyoshi’s hand; their wedding rings glinting in the bright lights; a silent protest. They both waved.
“Arashi.”
Ohno stumbled out; he was still a little high.
Matsujun and Nino half-helped, half-dragged him out there.
Sho and Aiba pretended not to notice.
The screams were getting louder…
“Tackey and Tsubasa.”
Tsubasa ignored Tackey as they joined their friends.
Tackey’s heart twisted a little, it had been years since he’d felt Tsubasa’s cold anger.
The fans didn’t notice…
“NEWS.”
It had been two years since they had been allowed to take this stage; they still felt incomplete because they were two members short.
Kusano watched as his friends came out waving, he was sitting with Yuto. He wanted to stand on that stage, he felt forgotten. Maybe next year…he could only hope…
Ryo wished he could have dragged Uchi on stage with them…he was worried about pushing Tackey too far.
Uchi watch Ryo enter with NEWS leaving him behind and wanted to cry. Would he ever feel complete again?
Yoko hugged Uchi reassuringly.
“Kanjani8.”
Ryo stepped away from NEWS as he waited for the other seven members to join him. Starting the new year with Uchi in Kanjani8 but not in NEWS was wrong/
Kanjani8 entered Tokyo Dome screaming like the wild crazy band they were known to be.
NEWS grinned slightly.
Yamapi stared directly at Tackey almost defiantly as he hugged Uchi and did his trademark Yay thumbs up in Kusano’s direction.
Tackey looked away.
“KAT-TUN.”
Jin had been smoking pot with Ohno before the Countdown and was deliciously high.
Maru was annoyed while Koki and Ueda ignored him.
Kame focused on the audience instead of Bakanishi, his ex.
The fans were getting louder with each name.
“Ya-Ya-Yah.”
Shoon led his excited bandmates to join their sempais.
Hikaru grinned at Notti as he and Shoon did side by side mid air flips.
Taiyou waved.
Yabu stood with Hikaru waiting.
“Hey Say BEST.”
Daiki, Inoo and Takaki grinned, waving.
“Kis-My-Ft 2.”
Kisumai entered on skates and making even more noise then Kanjani8 had. It was their first Countdown as a debuted group and they were excited.
Kitayama was glad JANE couldn’t perform, he still couldn’t stand them.
“2008 medley.”
NEWS started to sing Taiyou no Namida; it was their best single this year.
The stage emptied quickly.
KAT-TUN changed into their ‘Don’t you ever stop’ Costumes.
Koki was getting annoyed with pothead Jin and his bullying ways. He had had to let out the older singer’s costume due to his drug-related binges.
Notti and Uchi sang along though they were far away from their bandmates.
NEWS missed them both more knowing how close they were.
As the lights from Taiyou no Namida went down another part of the stage was prepared.
KAT-TUN members appeared in various places in the midst of flashing lights and loud music.
During the performance most of the members kept their distance from Jin.
Jets of fire came from the front of the stage as the dance solos began. The song ended with one huge flash of fire as the word ‘Stop’ rang through the Dome.
Soft lights and music came from another part of the stage, an image of a clock appeared on the big screen as Tackey began to sing his single with Tsubasa, ‘Kaluta.’
Tsubasa tried to kept from crying as he sang, he missed the way things used to be back when they debuted. He felt like he was a burden to Tackey, control of the Jumisho was changing his lover. He didn’t feel at home at their apartment…he was lost and alone.
The song ends and Tackey watches as a sad Tsubasa turns his back on him and walked away. It felt final, like a vise on his heart.
Tokio ran onto another part of the stage fighting with umbrellas as they started singing Amagasa from Maabo’s drama with Ohkura. They all took their places with their instruments and started accompanying the song.
Nino and Sho were nervous as the time drew nearer for them to sing; before they knew it they were in the spot light. The haunting music of ‘Truth’ fills the dark stadium.
Still deliciously high Ohno starts to sing.
Despite Ohno being high it was a great performance.
V6’s ‘Light in your heart’ began with lazars, smoke and an explosion on the giant screen. Go and Inohara led the dance, it was one of their best songs.
The others Johnnys didn’t dare say a word as Tsuyoshi gave Kouichi a kiss for good luck.
Kouichi had to admit his project was doing well.
The fans screamed when they saw the band, Yamapi and Yamada on trumpet, Inoo on piano, Taiyou on keyboard, Yodai and Ohkura on Drums, Yabu, Hikaru and Baru on guitar while Shoon played bass. Taipi and Senga could barely be glimpsed in the soft lights.
Kouichi and Tsuyoshi sang…
Tsuyoshi tried to ignore the meaning of the song, he knew he needed to leave the past behind. His dwelling on it was hurting his lover but the pain still lingered. He always wondered was it his fault that his girlfriend killed herself? Could he have prevented it?
Kouichi reached for his hand as they sang, he wanted to see Tsuyoshi smile more. The sadness never seemed to go away…
The stage emptied except for Ya-Ya-Yah.
Hikaru started to play the opening cords of Deep Night Kimi Omou. He had written it to explain the mixed up way he felt after meeting Rory and spending time with her, he cared about Tsuki but he didn’t love her. He adored Sayumi, they beautiful baby girl. He looked at Rory as he sang would she feel the power of his words…the feelings he had never spoke of. She seemed so close to Massu and she was older then he was did he even have a chance? He looked into her eyes, “My girl…”
Rory shivered, why was he looking at her…
Yabu kept nervously glancing between Miki and Cashes; something was drawing him to the leader of JANE. Why?
Taiyou waved at Saki, he couldn’t believe she’d managed to come. He’d always loved her.
Shoon felt alone, other then Yabu he had never really loved anyone. Loving Yabu was like loving the moon, it was just as foolish.
Kanjani8 sang as they spun around in office chairs, the screen is filled with falling stars and phones. The fans screamed, yesterday they had changed their costumes. Uchi had thought it might be fun to wear their old Eito Rangers costume from his last Kanjani8 before his suspension. The choice was a hit with the fans. Pushing each other around the stage while singing like they were drunk and maybe they were they would never tell.
When their song ended Yassu tossed his ranger costume off-stage and announced, “Surprise song in honor of our adorable kouhais, Hey Say JANE.” Their costumes were specially designed by Koki to be similar to JANE’s PV costumes.
Yamapi, Tesshi, Kouichi, Shoon, Taiyou and Takaki joined him in similar costumes.
Takaki winked at Melly and blew her a kiss, “This is Girls Can Too because trust me they can.”
The seven sempais started to sing and JANE cried; they hadn’t expected this.
Cashel mouthed at Kouichi, ‘thank you.’
Kouichi grinned, this was the best he could do for her.
Kitayama scowled, how could they? How could they? No other group had gotten that kind of attention.
Taisuke hated to go against Hiropi but he liked JANE; he thought Melissa, Riley and Rory were pretty cool kouhais.
Senga was always watching them practice if Kitayama wasn’t so crazy mad at them he would try to be their friend. He’d been in the company longer but they had been debuted a month before Kis-my-ft2.
Yokoo thought Kitayama was an idiot; ten hot girls join the Jumisho and the older boy was angry about fans boycotting their concerts because of Johnny. How was that their fault? JANE hadn’t known any then they had.
Nika didn’t really mind JANE, if he didn’t worry about losing the home he shared with Kitayama and his friend’s adorable toddler Natsumi. He loved that little girl…
Miyata rolled his eyes at Kitayama’s stupidity.
Kitayama glared in JANE’s direction, even though it was dark in their part of the stage.
The fans screamed again as flashing lights and the opening bars of Firebeat began. Kisumai jumped out of the stage yelling, still trying to wilder then Kanjani8 and sexier then KAT-TUN.
Taisuke gave the best performance of his life, standing in this stage as a debuted group was more then he ever imagined.
Hey Say BEST waited in a dark on another part of the stage,
Daiki was the first to gain a spot light as he danced, his yellow track suit flashing in the bright lights.
Takaki had the second solo, he flashed another peace sign at Melly; did she have the courage to embrace the feelings that had sprung up between them?
Inoo blew a kiss to Maasa; she was a rather special person to put up with his quirks.
Yabu ended the song with a yell.
The debuted groups took the stage for the countdown.
Tsuyoshi gestured for Cashel to join them.
Yamapi yelled, “Ju.”
Tackey called out, “Ku.”
Subaru whooped, “Hachi.”
Nagase yelled, “Nana.”
Koki and Maru bounced, “Roku.”
Taiyou’s deep voice filled the Dome, “Go.”
Taipi giggled, “Yon.”
Inohara danced around wildly, “San.”
Sho grinned, “Ni.”
Cashel stole Tsuyoshi’s mike, “Ichi. Happy birthday Kouichi-mama.”
Kouichi turned bright red as he hugged her.
Tsuyoshi smirked at Nagase and kissed Kouichi.
The fans screamed; fan service was the best thing in the world. The Johnnys knew it was real…
Cashel led everyone in NEWS’ single Happy Birthday.
The mixed medleys began; Cashel spent the rest of the night attached to Kouichi and Tsuyoshi. At one point during a Kinki kids medley Cashel grabbed Milla from the dugout and they sang Harmony of December.
Milla walked up with Tsuyoshi’s guitar.
Tsuyoshi took it, “In honor of Kou-chan’s birthday, I’m going to sing his favorite song as the last song. Its okay if you don’t know it”
Kouichi squeezed Cashel’s hand, he hadn’t expected this…
Koki had an arm around Taiyou’s waist and Taisuke’s shoulders.
Massu had one arm around Hikaru and the other around Nakamaru.
Tesshi cuddled up to Nagase
Ryo and Yamapi were all over Uchi; actually both NEWS and Kanjani8 were grouped together as one band.
The whole Dome was quiet as Tsuyoshi sang…
When he was finished he kissed Kouichi’s ring,, “Aishiteru yo Kou-chan.”
Tackey shifted nervously…
Yamapi caught the pained look on Tsubasa’s face, what was going on with papa and mama?
Kouichi leapt into Tsuyoshi’s arms, “Boku mou…”
