I forget everything, and usually I forget it before it's really even passed. Is everyone this way? The things which remain in my head remain firmly, but the rest slips far away. So here're some things I'd like to remember later:

Dinner last weekend at Eddie V's, where I had an amazing grilled chilean sea bass entree and the best wine I've ever ( Read more... )

it used to bug me that i couldn't remember everything very well. and then i whipped the camera and notebook out and documented everything and i figured out what was going on. it wasn't that i saw why i was forgetting and could write it down or photograph it, though that noticeably improved my memory. the illuminating thing was that the act of recording so diminished the joy of the experience in the moment that i figured out that i was getting so much out of life by *living* it, really *being THERE* and not in my head. and if the price for that kind of joy is not having the sharpest of memories, i'll take constant but perhaps fleeting joy over a very precise memory of some technically perfect but actually soulless moments of observation any day.

much love & best wishes for the fairy-dust application.

I hear you for sure. There has to be some balance between actually living and then the recording/appreciating of the living, I think. LJ is quite good for that 'cause you can live live live and then just spend a few minutes before you fall asleep recording the living you did... LOve that!

Thanks, C :) much love to you, to, and best wishes for your upcoming move!! Tell me what your new place lacks (mugs? sushi plates? cookbooks?), please!
