Some random happiness

I got feedback this evening on an old Voyager story, If Wishes Were Fishes A very lovely lady called Cass sent me a couple of sentences of feedback. I replied, as I always do, to thank her. She then sent me this in response. It's so lovely, I'm posting it here. Even though a part of me thinks it's rather egotistical to post such glowing words about ( Read more... )

You take them too, dear! As I said... they apply to all of us who post our writing on the internetz. :)

That gives me the warm fuzzies. And it's never egotistical to share when someone expresses themselves in such a giving way. From working with writers constantly, I know that no matter how skilled they are, there still is a periodic flash of doubt "Can I write again?" "Does anybody really get this stuff?" So yeah, I welcome more of this. It has nothing to do with ego; it's all about connecting with someone you'd never normally meet in real life.

Yeah, I was very touched with the warm giving behind her words. She thinks I gave her something with my story; she gave back to me one hundredfold with this small email.

Oh, HOW happy this makes me. Because yes - one needs to know, and let us be honest, we writerly types are not big of ego on the whole. And comments can make such a difference. *had similarly amazing comment recently which made my month, let alone my week*

I remember you mentioning receiving a lovely comment, but I think you were less egotistical than I and didn't post it. Go on!! Post it, Sab!

That is just fifty kinds of awesome. I think it's easy to underestimated the effect* of what we write (whether it fanfic or whatever) on people.

I remember getting a comment from one of our players when I wrote the club newsletter that had me walking on air for weeks (it also prompted me to produce an end of season edition in a week - due to a series of tragedies and bad events, I wasn't going to do it - but she made me realise that though I thought they (the newsletters) were just a bit of fun, to others they were more).
Just last week I had someone tell me that they still had theirs and read them. I wrote them over fifteen years ago! Who knew?

*affect???

That is a great story about the newsletter. And don't forget your work book of quotes. :) Your writing and comments affect many people in a very good way, Auda dear, so I'm totally not surprised you received lovely words about your newsletter.

Now, if we could just get you to stop outsourcing your story-writing... :D

Effect. Because it's not a verb when you used it. It is when I used it. I think :S

Thanks for the effect/affect thing. So many people have explained it to me, but I continue to "not get it". Sigh. As DLSayers would say, it's like explaining music to the tone deaf.

I didn't write the quotes book. I just typeset it. It's in its third print run and became a 'day to view' calendar. It's gone viral.
