So I might try to squeeze 1000 words out of the opening credits for Desperate Housewives, because they rock. My angle of the Essay title:

Write a seminar paper of 1000 - 1500 words relevant to some aspect of contemporary commercial multimedia practice… is…histories emerge in the context of the time in which they are read sort of coupled with the ( Read more... )

Check out the credits at the end of the episode, or IMDB. That may give some idea.

There's a whole TWoP forum on Desperate Housewives. Back when it was only a thread, I know that the credit details were posted.

I suspect American Gothic by Grant Wood got into the credits by mistake. The woman in the portrait is the farmer's daughter NOT his wife. It was heavily discussed in my Art History class many years ago. You might be able to find a website to confirm it these days.

The Arnolfini Marriage and the classic (is it Cranach?) Adam and Eve are two interesting views of marriage. One question that I think is even more pertinent today -- what with TV and all -- is the idea that there's no marriage without a witness. The artist is actually reflected in the mirror in the Arnolfini portrait; some art historians think this could have been their wedding document.

Are the fictional Desperate Housewives more real to us because we're "witnessing" their marriages?

Thank you so much! With the extra you've tipped me on to, I think I'll bump up to a sweet 1500.

How's your Pop doing? How are you holding up?

You are both in my thoughts.

Dad's still in pain. He had the hyperbaric this morning and will have another again tomorrow. The biopsy came back negative for cancer.

Your thoughts and prayers help.

All my love.
