The ocean here is somehow not even a little bit as exciting as Sokka had expected.

He's sitting at the top of a sand dune, watching the grey, kraken-free (so far) waves break on the rocky shore, and brooding so hard that he's practically oozing angst. Sure he sort of has an excuse, but it's a little bit lame nevertheless.

There's a clap of not-thunder and a flash of light and a couple of hundred feet off-shore a crimson shape plummets into the water.

SPLASH!

That is much more interesting than brooding.

Sokka is on his feet in a moment, squinting out at the figure, trying to figure out what the hell just happened. He looks around for his older self for direction, but the other Sokka isn't in sight for the moment.

Damn it, that means he has to figure something out on his own.

And look how well that always ends up.

NO, NO ANGSTING. Something fell into the water! Okay, well, HE'LL GET IT OUT OF THE WATER.

Boy in Fire Nation clothing swimming straight for the splash now.

Older boy up higher on the dune, sitting up sharply to browraise at his abruptly-swimming double.

"...DON'T GET EATEN, OKAY?"

Mai knows how to swim. In fact she's not bad at it. However today she's wearing silk robes. Which quickly become waterlogged and start dragging her down. She's managing to stay afloat, but that's about it at the moment.
