Reading is hard and Will has a book that Kate says will help him, but for now its just annoying he's glad to put it down and greet the lad,

Toby looks up, startled out of his reading (baking powder! Now wasn't that something!) and a little sheepish to have been so engrossed. "P'raps you have, sir. Been mostly in the kitchens, though I've got a room in the earth-house."

Toby hasn't seen Will, but then he hasn't gone looking for much, past Miss Jona's tour. "I'm called Toby, sir."

"I call everyone sir, sir," Toby protests-- crazy farm where everybody wants him to forget his manners, it's enough to make a kid facepalm. "Or Miss or Missus, if it's a lady. Don't mean nothin' by it.

"An' I can read enough for this-- got to learn how to work things in the kitchen, make myself useful. ... Looks like it's lots easier than it was in London."
