Kansas is really the only safe place to set down in random fields any more. It's also the only safe place to go riding -- even if you're a superhero.
Steph found a motorbike in an abandoned farmhouse, and failed to find anyone she could ask for permission -- so she left a note, borrowed a tank of gas and a helmet, and is now whooping down dirt tracks and laughing happily at the world in general. This world rocks!
--oooh, ooh, is that an aeroplane? And a shiny-looking one, too! The cloud of dust amid the overgrown, weedy fields, some distance away, changes direction to head straight for Barbara.
Barbara's head snaps up as the wind brings her the sound of an engine. It's a motorcycle, so she starts to relax. Then she realizes that the engine is not nearly large enough to be Dinah's bike. And at the rate it was approaching she wasn't going to have time to get back into the plane and button up before her visitor arrived.
Stupid wheelchair. At least it let her pack a small arsenal...
The bike turns and wheels to a halt at the edge of the field that the plane's in, and a small, lithe, helmeted figure leaps off it to stand at the edge of the field admiring the plane.
Until she notices the figure in the wheelchair, and then she's staring at her instead.
"Oh my God, no way! BABS?"
There aren't that many redheads in wheelchairs with that aura of violence about them.
Part of a perfect memory includes the ability to remember voices. But there was some distortion and a helmet and the time Steph had spent on her own to throw Barbara off.
And the fact that Stephanie Brown was filed in the 'dead' category in Babs' brain.
"Do I know you?" she asks without loosening her grip on the weapons in her lap.
