Oliver left in his van, on a reconnaissance mission and a supply run. That was around two weeks ago. He hasn't been seen since. This is why.

He's stuck to fields and woods as often as he could - though he risks the road sometimes, as it's easier riding. He's hungry. He's tired. He rides Beau completely bareback, using knees and Commands to guide the ( Read more... )

Val does remember her last conversation with Oliver.

Which is why she flares her wings and stalls the minute she spots him, then drops out of the sky like a stone.

A glowing white figure plummeting towards the side of the road, about fifteen feet in front of him and a little to the right, may just be enough to wake him up.

Fifteen feet is too close for Beau. Really, when it's a glowing white figure descending from on high, anything is too close. Beau whirls while screaming in fear and begins running away.

This wakes Oliver up. Unbalancing off of your horse and falling into gravely mud will do that to you. Fortunately, the fall damages only his clothes.

Oliver scrambles into a crouch, right hand held up and flickering with Godflame before he registers what's going on. Once he does, there is much confused blinking.

As soon as the horse freaks, Val pulls up, but it's already too late.

She sighs, lands neatly, and lets wings and armour fade out.

"Fuckin' horses. I always forget they do that. You okay?"

The Godflame fades as Oliver's adrenaline does. He turns his back on Val, sending a Command to Beau. Beau's gallop begins to slow, then speed up, the horse visibly fighting the Command.

Finally, the brown horse in the distance slows to a walk, shaking his head and lifting up his forehooves angrily.

"Come on, come on..." Oliver murmurs, right hand thrust out to aid his mental magic. Slowly, Beau begins to walk back. He stops to nibble some dry grasses on the side of the road.

Oliver laughs, softly and breathily (and not entirely sanely), because when Beau's got an attitude that means he's fine, just fine, and if Beau's fine then Oliver is fine. Just fine.

He eventually remembers Val's existence: enough to glance over his shoulder and say, "They stole my van."
