Metropolis is the biggest, highest populated, most important functioning city in the world. It also, right now, isn't much of a fucntioning sity - the police are pushed to their limits, the population is higher than it can really support and its economy is crazy thanks to a distinct lack of anywhere to trade with. Crime is higher than it used to be ( Read more... )

And on this street in Metropolis--

--no, not that one. The little one. Just up there, and a little to the left; there, you have it--

--something smashes, plastic buckling violently against brick. A big, long-since looted bin just bit the dust.

Sparrow - Jubilation, for she's not in costume - Jubes doesn't break into a run at the noise, but she does pick up a little speed, heading towards the sound.

When she gets to the street she's strolling, hands deep in her pockets.

The sound hasn't repeated itself: in this state, any power is chancy, and the bin could be considered a lucky hit more than anything else.

The alley smells terrible. Something's rotting.

Sylar does not notice Jubes at first: just concentrating on the living world is hard enough, and though he's been described as having a will of steel, he hasn't had much time to practice. It's up in the air whether anyone can see him, like this.

Around a hunched, dark shape at the end of the alley, dust swirls in the still air.

Jubes covers her mouth; apparently a reaction against the smell but also to palm a couple of plugs into her nostrils - being Sparrow is all about the gadgetry.

Then she strides towards the shape, not missing a quick scan of the bin that looks like it wasn't in that place until a second ago.

A shadow passes by, over head. If she looks up, she might catch the fleeting shape of a familiar cape, swinging from a familiarish line.

Part of being Sparrow means that you don't just happen to look up. And when she sees the shadow, she immediately thinks it's him and her heart lifts - before she remembers that no one she really knows from her world has shown up and it's most likely that Batman guy.

Which is why, a few hours later, Sparrow, in full costume, returns to the rooftops where Jubilation had seen the shape.

And, not so long after, a throat is cleared behind her. He's Batman, it's what he does. "And who are you supposed to be?"

She's used to it enough from 'Claw, that it doesn't even phase her. She just reels around and peers up at him.

Definitely not Claw.

"You're him? The wannabe they all love so much?"
