"Well, holy shit." The sentiment is understated, but there's a slight emphasis to convey that this is, to the speaker, an unusual circumstance.
Some sort of flying guy (who's not dead) and a girl walking around looking like some crazy version of Robin Hood. In New York of the Walking Murderplants.
"I never said my codename, and I'm not in costume. Not that it matters here anyway. And yeah, I miss my team, though one of them's finally here." She's a big believer in backup.
"Lots of people. The Cooper Farm's more like a village these days, and Metropolis further west in the state's an active city mostly. A lot have settled in either place."
"Yeah, maybe not how it used to be before whatever happened here, but better than other places. Kansas is the safest area around for whatever the reason."
"I don't know... I can't be the only one that wants to be somewhere safe..." Her fingertips knead her forehead. "It's not really that bad here, I guess... we've got power."
No, she can't actually convince herself. Jessica is a city girl at heart.
Kate considered it. It was hard, it meant leaving behind the farm, and Will... unless he could come up here. And she wasn't sure about wanting to force that choice on him since he needs forests. But she felt like there was little she could do down there, and New York was her home.
"There's a LOT of plants," she replies, dubiously. "And we don't know what else. But... there's power and stuff..." She tugs an improvised notebook from sewn-together looseleaf out of her back pocket and produces a pencil. "Let's see... I think we've got some barricades set up, but more might work..." Scribble scribble.

A whisp of wry smile creases one side of her mouth. "Aren't superheroes supposed to have secret identities or whatever?"

Kansas. Is there anything in Kansas when the world is not destroyed? Other than, like, cows.
(Jessica does not necessarily have a very educated view of the world.)

"As in, not completely destroyed, people live there without getting eaten by monsters, sort of thing?"

It could be again.
"What if there was a way to make it safe?"
