In a bar in Metropolis one summer night, Tom is quite drunk. He stumbles out of the bar with a few of his new best friends who are trying to explain to him why Family Guy was the best show ever and they wish there were more new episodes

A small brown rat scurries out from behind the can.

That is not unusual.

It stops dead and stares Tom down as though it has just had the shock of its little ratty life.

That's unusual.

Tom is humming a Fremmanish song under his breath as he walks. The rat gets a quick glance before he passes by. This is your typical Dark Shady Alleyway, so there's not enough light to make out any distinctive features.

The rat gets a longer look when it doesn't run away when something bigger approaches. Normal rats are all about that.

Feeling stupid, Tom pauses barely two feet from the rat and gives it a quick nod.

It dashes forward and gives his foot a quick sniff.

And then grows something very like a human mouth and throat.

"Tom?!"
