“This place is going to look like Little Somalia,” Brig. Gen. Gary Jones, commander of the Louisiana National Guard’s Joint Task Force told Army Times Friday as hundreds of armed troops under his charge prepared to launch a massive citywide security mission from a staging area outside the Louisiana Superdome. “We’re going to go out and take this ( Read more... )

Yeah. I'm getting a little tired of the "omgdon'tbehatingonBush" crowd's insistence that the lefties (heck, anyone who dares criticize...) need to STFU; they need to realize that there are actual grievances to address here.

Thank you for posting this. I'd like to think that your words might have more sway since you're experiencing this a whole heckuva lot more directly than most, but that might be too much to hope for.

Yeah, whatever we do, we can't stop talking about this, because the administration wants this monumental failure on its part to just dissappear.

Yes, Peggy's choice is the sexiest, but the Queen of Hearts is the raddest. ^_^

In a moment of black humor, I said to someone that the only idea the Bush administration ever had was to shoot/bomb places, so that was what was going to happen in NO. I'm horrified to see how close to the mark that was.

Right now, the rest of the world is standing back in awe and (to be honest) a little disgust as we watch America tear itself apart right when they need to stick together.

Barring third-world countries, if there's one single place in the world I would never move for any amount of money, it's America. I don't want to be there when the place implodes... and that seems to be where it's heading.

I haven't said a word about it in my journal. In my experience as a non-American who follows world events, my thoughts generally aren't wanted by the average American. :\

I personally don't think it's quite that bad, but I can sure as hell understand how you would come to that conclusion. ;-) America is a gigantic place, and you may as well be in a different country, when you go to different states, the culture is so different. I think it won't implode so much as it will constrict and become more isolationist. (which is arguably exactly what needs to happen)

America is a big place. It's also a great place.

For all our myriad problems, there are so many wonderful people here. You can find these crazy subcultures you'd never even dream of in every city, every nook and cranny hides these incredible groups of people.

Unfortunately, some of those cool people are dying now.

Mark my words, America won't stand for this. Right now, there is a collective thought that "We Fucked Up." Soon, that will turn into "No... They Fucked Up."

"They" will not be in charge much longer.

The people of NOLA are paying for our folly. This is a humiliating time for this country, and it damn well should be. That said, if there's one thing I know about the people of this country, it's that we don't like to lose.

I hope so. I was one of Bush's biggest critics before the last election, but I started to step back when the vote made it quite clear that the majority of people there weren't in agreeance with me on that one. And it's funny; in the years since, the more the man fucks up, the louder his supporters (and there are a lot of them) seem to shout you down when you criticise said fuckups. It's gotten to the point where I don't bother anymore.

I said this somewhere else and i'll say it again: I'm a non-american, so my opinion isn't that important, still I feel totally frozen in disgust hearing that the militay are allowed to shot on people that were left to starve for days, CIVILIANS. There's something really wrong, when a natural disaster is threated like a war of some sort.
