This year at ECCC, phone reception was abysmal. And the Internet was usurious - $150 per device for the weekend, not too good when you have six people in one booth. Or $2400 for them to drop a wireless repeater in your booth. Or $3500 for them to run a dedicated line to a hotspot in your booth. Neither of these two options were attractive either.

Look up 'travel routers', which are designed to do basically exactly what you want. I've got one (A DLink, I think) that was < $100 and works pretty well. (I think they get down to the ~$40 price range for some models, too)

Yeah, one of my boothmates brought in one of those. Sadly it didn't work, the people who run the network watch for that kind of stuff and block the data.

(this post is from friday night, the plugin that copies my stuff to LJ only acted on it when I edited it via the web interface. I really have to see if I can find a way to make the LJ-copier plugin trigger on a post made via an app.)
