Zentangle is not new

I can't understand why the hoopla. This is illumination. It's not even less abstract. There are even modern versions. Check out the movie "Yellow Submarine" for zentangles throughout the movie. Want more modern? Check out the cartoon "Chowder." I'm sure there are more examples ( Read more... )

My guess is money. Coz if it's new and it's deeply profound and all that jazz then people will pay more for it. Things that are coveted, people will pay more for.

I've been wondering too, why the fuss, because it's just one more style of illustration. *shrugs*

Well, when all was said and done, it did seem to be helpful in getting me to make more organic doodles. I've been doing this stuff for years but I am prone to angles and lines.

I might post some if I am brave enough to get through people thinking I am doing it because it's trendy.

hahaha *grins* we find the opposite. Not so much with the angles and lines.

I think it's a personality thing, to prefer some kinds of patterns or art over another.

But yeah, being able to be flexible in what you can do is all good.

Nah I won't think you're being trendy *grins* I know you better than that!

I haven't heard of this before. What is it? I tried looking it up and I got a lot of images that look like the patterns I put into some of my black and white drawings.

That's exactly what it is. They sell expensive workshops and books to help you learn how to doodle, or illuminate your doodles/drawings. I got a book because I wanted to see what it was about - the the creators have successfully prevented that information from being widespread.

If you've seen the movie "Yellow Submarine" with the Beatles, then you've seen some awesome color examples of what these folks are selling.

Basically you use doodling as a form of meditation. I once found one I had done in high school - and 8 1/2 X 11 inch sheet of paper with hundreds of tiny stars on it. I can't imagine that I wasn't in a meditative state while doing it.

All I can think is that we as a species have lost much of our creativity and ability to play.
