We know this story like the stations of the cross.

The Sex Pistols play Manchester's Lesser Free Trade Hall. Inspired, four local lads start a band. The band changes name. The band are accused of being Nazis. The singer has epileptic fits. The band sign to Factory Records. Martin Hannett produces their album. Peter Saville designs their sleeves. The ( Read more... )

This is a book?
A book, book?

I may need to buy this so we own it, and I'll never read it.

This is a book.
A book by Hook.
Look! Look!
Hook has a book!

It's a fast read. As I said, it's mostly Hooky retelling all his favourite old JD anecdotes. But there's enough meat in there to make it worthwhile.

I wishlisted it last night.
Comes out in paperback for $10 in a month, so in that time I might be able to check if we have it or not.
My partner's shelving method for books is a little scatty (that is, it makes no sense), but I am sure we do not own it.

I was given the book for christmas and really need to read it! Hook's last book, about the Factory and Hacienda days, was awesome. Such a story, the Joy Division days, and sad too. Thanks for the review! And the motivation to read it. Fun fact #1234, my partner is from Kidsgrove which is JUST DOWN THE ROAD from Macclesfield...And had to go to the same unemployment office! Weird.

My pleasure.

I haven't read the Hacienda book, but I'm more interested in angsty post-punk than I am in dance music. I expect Hooky will write a New Order book next, especially since he's been playing the first two NO albums live.

Thanks for the review. I've been living under a rock, or something, and had no idea that Peter Hook had written a book, or more than one for that matter. Mind, almost every long-established musician does have an (auto)biography or somesuch so I shouldn't be surprised. This one sounds like a good read and a perspective on the band I wasn't aware of. Must be weird for musos that have been around so long, to reflect on events that were so cataclysmic to both the public and those involved but that happened when you were so young and living in an entirely different frame of mind.

I was tempted to call this post "Ian Curtis is not the Messiah, he's a very naught boy."
