Checking in

“This is nice.” Cameron looked around the lobby.

House smiled.

“What? I said it was nice.”

“You were ready to rip my head off an hour ago.”

“An hour ago I thought you left my camera home.” She patted it.

“Sometimes I think you care about it more than me.” House popped a few grapes into his mouth.

Cameron rolled her eyes. “Yes, it’s true, I’m having a mad affair with my digital camera.” She gazed at the painting behind the counter. “As wonderful as it is, it doesn’t come close to art like this.”

House peered closer. “That’s a good reproduction. ‘San Pietro in Vincoli i Rom’ by Constantin Hansen. Born in Rome in 1804.”

"I didn't know you were here before." Cameron's voice was quiet.

House shrugged. "I passed through with my parents and got to see an exhibit or two. Always meant to come back and never did." He looked away.

Cameron looped her arm with his. “Let’s go to our room.”

Notes: Since I've never been to Italy, this storyline is challenging for me. The table was wood but I had painted it with black lacquer paint, to be used for another venue in a room box (if I ever get around to putting it together). The digital camera is new. And the painting is a photograph of the one House mentions. I've discovered an inexpensive source of mini art--fine art catalogs sold cheap at used bookstores. (And that way I don't feel guilty cutting up a book.)
