Chapter 1

“Dude, this is ridiculous.”
Changmin glared at Yunho who sat across the table. Sometimes he wondered if Yunho was really a CEO of a big company, seeing how he managed to take aside so much time in Jaejoong’s restaurant.
Given, the restaurateur was his lifetime partner/boyfriend, but still, Yunho practically spent nearly six office hours of every working day there! Maybe the man wasn’t exactly a CEO, maybe the business he owned was actually some kind of a ruse for an illegal underground operation that do deals with Japanese Yakuza at night in a dingy warehouse in the middle of an abandoned harbor.
Changmin knew there was something suspicious with Yunho’s company all these time.
“No, seriously, this is so ridiculous that I might be tempted to give up my company and do illegal side businesses or something. Kidding,” Yunho added after seeing Changmin’s eyes widened at the statement.
Changmin scowled deeper. “I don’t see what is so wrong with me not wanting to have a boyfriend/girlfriend, many people preferred to spend their time alone. And how is it that you’re always here anyway, don’t you have an important meeting or something?”
Yunho faked a deep breath and looked at Changmin wisely, “my dear boy, a true businessman can only be said he has truly succeeded if he has implement such system in the company so that it can run by irself without any further involvement from the said man on daily basis.”
The architect blinked and opened his mouth to let out another scathing reply but they were cut off when Jaejoong glided prettily to their table. He placed a plate of food in front of Changmin and proceeded to sit on Yunho’s lap.
“What did I miss?” he giggled as Yunho placed butterfly kisses along his jaw.
“I was just telling our dongsaeng here that he misses a lot of things if he doesn’t have a partner.”
“I just don’t get it, what is so special about a relationship? The only perk I can think about is free sex but I have my own sexual partners so that angle is practically covered,” Changmin defended himself as he take a bit of Jaejoong’s freshly made spaghetti. God, this stuff was so good, he almost moaned blissfully and took another bite.
“By sexual partners I assume you mean quick fucks from random strangers you pick up in equally random nightclubs?” the chef asked innocently.
Changmin glared at Jaejoong whom staring back with a pair of wide smiling eyes and replied, “And what’s wrong with that? It’s not like I’ll get an STD anyway, I always use condoms and stuff.”
“But don’t you want something else, Min? Maybe someone that can listen to you when you have a bad day, someone that make you feel appreciated?” Jaejoong pressed in.
The architect thought for a moment and shook his head, “I got Kyuhyun for that.”
Yunho and Jaejoong exchanged a glance. “Are you sure you two are not-“
“No,” Changmin cut off. “He’s my best friend, that’s all.”
Yunho shrugged. “Well, if you say so. But seriously Min,” his eyes stared intently at the young man in front of him, “You need someone.”
Changmin rolled his eyes, “No I really don’t. I got an awesome job, live in a penthouse, I can eat whatever I want, I have a body that models around the world are dying to have and a handsome face to match. Why would I want anything else?”

“Dude, this is ridiculous.”
Kyuhyun snorted as he watched his editor’s pacing back and forth around his spacious living room. At this rate Donghae would wear a hole in the carpet and Kyuhyun would be forced to buy another Persian rug and as tempting at it sounds, he rather like the current carpet, thank you very much.
“You don’t say,” he said sarcastically, “and stop pacing, you’re making me dizzy.”
Donghae grumbled but at least he stopped. He sat down on the sofa but less than ten seconds later he started tapping his foot on the floor impatiently.
Kyuhyun groaned, “Hae! God, I’m the one getting sued here and do you see me panicking?”
The editor looked at his friend in disbelief, “how can you be so calm? This can seriously damage your reputation and your books won’t sell anymore because no one will buy your book and I will lose my most potential cash cow.”
“Gee, I feel bathe in your love already,” Kyuhyun rolled his eyes, “thanks for that. Remind me to delete you from my contact list later once you’re out of here. I’m calm because I’m smart and you’re stupid and that guy’s claim is absurd anyway.”
Donghae perked up, “Can you prove that?”
“No, but I’m sure one of your company lawyers can,” Kyuhyun replied.
“………”
“Don’t tell me you’re not going to provide me with a lawyer.”
Donghae looked away guiltily.
“Hae!”
“I’m sorry!” Donghae whined, “but you know we have this big merger coming and all the lawyers are focused over there covering the liability and stuff. Plus your thing came like really sudden so nobody is available.”
“Really sudden? What do you mean really sudden? Can anyone possibly know beforehand that they are going to get sued?”
“Some people might,” Donghae supplied weakly.
“Well, I’m not one of them, okay?” Kyuhyun snapped back. “You know what, I’ll just need to find one soon, I’ll take care of this by my own.”
His editor looked at him with puppy eyes .
Kyuhyun sighed, “No, I’m not angry with you, and yes, I will still send you my newest plot soon. Now get out from my apartment.”
Donghae gleefully stood up and started walking rather bouncily towards the door. At the doorway he turned around to faced the sullen-face-and-still-sulking-a-bit novelist before giving him a hug, “Now, if there is anything I can do to help you, except finding the lawyer of course, anything my dear friend, just give me a call and I’ll be here before you know it.”
Kyuhyun scoffed, “Yeah, yeah. Anyway, thanks Hae. Say hi to Eunhyuk for me.”
The editor gave him a careless wave and Kyuhyun let out a small chuckle. Donghae might not be the smartest editor out there, but he did a good job and was a good friend and obviously cared for the rather introvert novelist.
As he closed the door, Kyuhyun rubbed his temples, already feeling a headache forming on his brain. He needed to call Leeteuk, immediately. Hopefully the older man or maybe his boyfriend -Kyuhyun scowled as he thought of Kangin- knew any good lawyers. For his career’s sake, Kyuhyun really hoped so.
***************************************
“The whole world is ridiculous.”
Changmin hummed in agreement as he watched Kyuhyun poured more wine into his glass. The red Bordeaux had made his head pleasantly buzzed, but not to an extent he couldn’t drive back home later.
“I mean, how can they buy his story that I’m the one who’s doing plagiarism? I have written six best-seller books, anybody that have a brain can obviously see that the writing style there is clearly my style,” Kyuhyun grumbled.
Knowing that his best friend most likely would be royally pissed off if he just mumbled or doing something equally incoherent, Changmin chose to reply rather decently this time. “The press likes it because any scandal is a story, and any story is news.”
Kyuhyun’s eyes darkened, “I swear those bloodhounds are getting more desperate each passing day.”
“You will get a lawyer soon though, right?”
“Yeah, I called Leeteuk today and he said he or Kangin can find one for me.”
“Your publisher won’t get one for you?” Changmin raised an eyebrow.
The novelist scowled. “Their company lawyers are all busy covering the company liabilities or assets or something. My editor said he couldn’t get me one.”
“Aren’t you also one of the company’s assets? I mean you are one of the best authors they have,” Changmin clarified.
“I don’t mind. Besides I trust Leeteuk-hyung, although not so much for his boyfriend,” Kyuhyun scowled deeper. “But Leeteuk-hyung is really nice, he knows a lot of people and if he said he can get me the best lawyer in town then I believe him.”
The architect snickered, “I see you still dislike your neighbor.”
“Are you kidding? Did you see his face when he saw you coming in here? I could rip off that pervert grin from his face. Last week he congratulated me, he thought you’re my boyfriend and I swore I heard him saying the same thing to Leeteuk.”
Changmin groaned. “Yunho and Jaejoong told me the same thing today. They also think we are in some sort of relationship.”
Kyuhyun rolled his eyes. “God, people can be so stupid. Why can’t they understand that we’re best friends and just that?”
“I feel your pain man.” Changmin downed the wine in his glass and poured some more. “They also keep nagging me to find a partner and all those stuff.”
This time Kyuhyun’s eyes glanced in sympathy to his best friend. “Yunho and Jaejoong?” As Changmin nodded in affirmation, he sighed and added, “I hate it when people start doing that.”
“I agree. Is it so wrong with wanting to spend your live alone, without all those couple drama? I’m perfectly happy with my life right now and so are you. We are two handsome, rich men that want nothing more but living our lives to the fullest.”
“And being single is the only way to do that,” the novelist added.
Changmin grinned. He raised his glass and proposed a toast, “To our happy bachelor life. May we stay single from now on to eternity.”
Kyuhyun smiled and his glass met Changmin’s in a slight clink. “Single from now on to eternity.”
Little did they know, soon their life would take an upside down and the two best friends would experience the very thing they tried very hard not to: finding a partner with all those couple drama.
