Went to a memorable outdoor Midsummer Night's Dream last night: memorable partly for the direction and staging, which set it in the sixties (all the songs set to classic tunes- worked very well, actually; bits of Puck's final speech go to Daydream Believer beautifully) and had lots of fairies hanging from tree branches, and partly from how much it ( Read more... )

There's a Bradford theatre group going to Edinburgh. Called Paradise Green, I think, although I may have mis-heard, and I *think* includes some university people.

Come to think of it, they've been there since Wednesday or so. Time keeps marching ruthlessly onwards, doesn't it?

If you got today's Guardian, you might want to look at page 5 of Sport, part of the Ashes coverage. In my copy the timeline along the bottom of the page has the following times, allegedly in order: 5.27 pm, 4.58 pm, 5.17 pm, 5.04 pm, 5.50 pm.

Didn't Peter Davidson's Doctor follow the cricket? Hmm...

Outdoor Shakespeare rocks! One of the best "Dream"s I ever saw was an outdoor production where Cobweb, Moth, Peaseblossom and Mustard were played by glove puppets.

That sounds cool! In this one, the Athenian lovers did Cobweb et al (with masks on), which worked fine.
I'm going to another one (different troupe) in August, one of the comedies but can't now remember which...
