What is rent in NYC nowadays?

So, what is rent in NYC nowadays? In Astoria, particularly? I want to get a one-bedroom. In 2002, that was possible for $900. Is it now?

And where are the (other?) cheap places to live in NYC?

Please, advice!

Astoria? Yes, that is possible. Manhattan? I just found a place for 980, and I am very VERY lucky.

Rent in Astoria has spiked over the past 2 years, people kept telling me while I was looking. While it used to be easy to find a 2 bedroom for $1400, it is now extremely difficult, with normal prices being closer to $1600-$1800. That being said, I was VERY lucky and found a rent stablized 2 bedroom for $1400, also about 2 blocks from the 36th Ave stop! I think $900 for a 1 bedroom sounds very reasonable, I'm sure you could find something.
