Sprots anything is always more expensive. We want London sports listings on the website at work and it's about 5 times more expensive than buying in something like yellow pages records for the whole of London because you have to buy a licence to distribute sports data while plumbers are quite happy to have their info passed about for free.
I had no idea it was licensed like that - thanks for the info. I imagine it's something to do with preventing illegal gambling or something like that.
It was the cost for the single general entertainment channel that got me - it would be like paying £40 a month for ITV or Channel 4.
We also have a basic tv license, which is about twice that of the BBC and you have to opt out rather than opting in, so a friend of mine who doesn't own a television regularly has fun and games showing an inspector around just to prove that he's not just trying to hide it.
Na, I don't think it's gambling, I think it's pure greed. Also, most sporting events don't have trouble shifting the tickets, the opposite really, so there's not much incentive to sell sports listings which is why they charge. You have to be really determined to get hold of some. This is why Time Out and the weekend papers and places like that are full of arts listings and not sport, the arts are cheep!
That's quite possible... I was hoping it would be something a little less ignoble. :) I'd never really thought about the lack of sports listings in magazines before now but I see your point.
I will be watching the Superbowl on BBC2 (after a momentary panic when I couldn't find it - after all the entire season has been on channel 5). I have been a Patriots supporter since I first visited the States in '85.
Ah yes. Not a good year to be a Dolphins fan :-( About as bad as when I started supporting the Pats - people would say "Who?) But at least you had the only perfect season until (hopefully) tonight.

I'm a Dolphins fan myself, so I'll be supporting NY in the hope of revenge. :)
