Yes - I know exactly what you mean - it's the "travelling" not the "destination". :)

(Actually, not sure that is the right metaphor, but I can't think of a better one at the moment).

Absolutely! If a story I like also happens to have a pairing that I'm into, it's like an added bonus. Same goes for when I'm writing: if a romantic subplot will enhance the story I want to tell, all the better!
