Man. I've had to work for this iPod. I went to Target and got an iPod Dock, only to get home and find out it doesn't actually have the FireWire connector, just the base. I returned that and then rode my bike to Best Buy and got the right thing, and then came home. Then, I had to put my FireWire card back in my computer ( Read more... )

I have iPodder installed, but haven't played with it yet. I'm not locked into iTunes at all. I think you only get locked into it if you buy music from them. It has no problem with non secure media (i.e. mp3s downloaded through LimeWire or KaZaA). I just load it through Winamp (because I like its interface more), and if I open iTunes, it recognizes all the music and doesn't complain at all.

I still would have preferred a Shuffle, but this was free. I'll take what I can get. :)

I've never had problems with music of, ahem, indeterminate origins on the ipod or itunes. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate buying songs from itunes though, cause the don't come as mp3s, and you have to remember to unauthorize your computer to play them before you format, or else you lose one of your five authorizations forever.

I personally have never wanted an ipod, but if you are happy with your...um, acquisition, then good for you...to me they seem like an attempt to be cool...if that were my desire then I have much better ways...I did purchase one as a gift, but that isn't my fault...I tried suggesting other mp3 players...since buying it I have read several books on them, so I suppose the knowledge I have gained makes up for my purchase...

you should get a zombie skin for it so it doesn't look like every other ipod out there (or what does the thing it is in look like?)

It sounds like you're knocking it because it is popular. Doing that is just as bad as buying into something because it is popular. Each item should be evaluated on its merit, and the iPod is an exceptionally usable MP3 player. I've owned many, and they've all sucked. I've wanted an iPod because they're good MP3 players. Though, I wanted a Shuffle, 'cause it's the size and weight of a pack of gum, but it's free ... I'll take what I can get. Any free MP3 player would have been appreciated. It just happens to be an iPod.

I should clarify ... I've owned many non-iPod MP3 players. Those have all sucked.
