CHAPTER 1
Jack inhaled the salty sea air, gazing at the waves rolling by in the ocean. Closing his eyes, he heard the perfect rhythm of the sea's symphony: splash, roll, splash, roll. "Cap'n!" His first mate, Gibbs yelled. "Cap'n, we've spotted land!" John squinted at what must have been land, so far away. "Bring her in," he told Gibbs. Sighing, Jack gave the wheel to Cotton, and went into his cabin, calculating how long it would be till they reached the land.
“We’ve reached the port, captain,” Ana Maria shouted from above. Jack said, “uh huh!” and pranced off his ship, and walked straight towards the dock of Tortuga. Jack walked into a pub, and sat down at an empty table. He took his always-present bottle of rum from underneath his jacket. Taking a long swig of it, he looked around the pub. People were dancing, drinking, and talking with each other; normal pub business. He felt calm until his eyes landed on a stranger’s face. He had a hat on, covering most of his face. There was a bottle of rum on the table. Jack felt uneasy while gazing at him - there was something about that man’s demeanor that made Jack feel awkward.
Ah, well, enough of deep thinking, Jack thought to himself. He got up and hit something. It was too hard to be a human, and yet too soft to be a cart. He poked it again, and it let out a gruff.
Oh.
It was a human, after all. Jack looked up into the face of a huge, burly, muscular man, whose moustache was infested with bugs. “Sorry there, mate, I thought you were a horse,” Jack said, flashing his sweetest smile. The man didn’t move.
“Move aside, Bruno,” someone said, obviously to the gigantic man standing in front of Jack. Hmm, what’s all this then? Jack thought, as he saw the stranger with the hat on push Bruno aside. “I was wondering if you would come outside with me, Mr. Sparrow,” He said, enforcing the “Mr. Sparrow” part. He didn’t mean it as a question, rather as an order.
They went to the back of the pub, no one in sight. “You’re Jack Sparrow, ain’t ye?” the stranger asked.
“I may be. And who are you, oh one who asks who I am?” Jack asked.
“I’m John, and have some use of you, Sparrow,” he said.
“Ah,” Jack said, scratching his chin. “Well, how about ye take off yer hat and tell me what your real name is, love?” The stranger put his arms on his hips and stuck his hip out to the left. Sighing, he took off his hat, and flowing hair fell down to her shoulders. Her long black hair was slowly flowing in the wind. She shook her head and said, “How do you always know, Sparrow?”
“I’m Captain Jack Sparrow, luv!” Jack said, gesturing wildly with his hands. “So what’s all this about then?”
“Well, to put it simply, I need your help. Until recently, I thought I was a homeless girl with no family or money at all. I actually belong to a rich family in the other side of the Caribbean. My parents had many enemies, and their family gold and secrets were in danger, so they separated me and my brother right before they died. I need to find my brother, and then I have to get our family heirloom, and see that it is in a safer place. To do that, I need your help, Sparrow.”
“Uh huh. And why would I want to help you out?”
“There’s fantastic pay, plenty of adventure, and you get to be the hero.” Jack thought on this. He hadn’t been on a paying adventure in quite a long time, and he was indeed getting bored. “Oh, did I happen to mention we have a rum cellar in my real house, and there’s treasure?” She said, raising her eyebrow.
Jack looked up. “Rum and treasure, eh? Well, luv, I’ve thought about it. I swear on the pain of death, I shall take you to your brother and this rum palace,” Jack said, smiling. The girl grinned and turned to go. Jack grabbed her wrist and swirled her around, separating them by inches. “You didn’t tell me your name”. She was silent for a second, until she whispered, “Liv”.
Jack let go of her, and she quickly ran away, Bruno following her. Smiling to himself, Jack knew this was going to be one hell of an adventure.
