Good Omens

I thought I ought to write a review of Good Omens,(on the principle that for most of my time on LJ/DW I've written reviews of fannish things I've watched so I feel I should carry on), but I'm struggling with what to say beyond that I enjoyed it.

Spoilers behind cut.

I am also a bit rusty on the book (although I started re-reading it), but I think I remember a bit more than you. I believe it is remarkably similar to the book for an adaption, though I think the ending is a dufferent. I did feel that it seemed a bit confused on when it was set, it wants to be modern day, but the story just feels it belongs earlier, for example I think Adam's dad just isn't a person that really exists now, but he would have been right when the story was written. See also the Robin Reliant, which when it was written would have been a dorky car, but now would be an ironic collector's piece.

I did enjoy it though. I think Martin Sheen was perfect in a way that I didn't think I had an opinion on. I'm a bit ho hum about Tennant though, he did a great job, but he just wasn't my Crowley (although I don't know who would've been).

I don't really have my own version of any of the characters, so Tennant was fine with me (though I'm not a big fan generally).

You're right about certain elements just not fitting now. I'm pretty sure they updated the call centre bit, but Adam's dad looked like he'd escaped from an episode of Endeavour.

I don't really, I just know Tennant isn't it.

And none of the kids even think about mobile phones or a tablets. Maybe Tadfield has terrible rural broadband coverage.

I had forgotten much of the book, too, but had that experience when I remembered it as I watched - a real case of remembering what happened in the book after seeing it on screen *g*

:)

Sorry for not answering before. It all seems very long ago since I watched it now.

We enjoyed it too and binge watched it all on a Sunday. I have to say it hung together very well as an extra long film over the course of an afternoon. I loved Tennant’s louche walk. Lol!

Saw this several days ago but finally got round to actually replying...

Having never read the book (or listened to the radio play or... anything) I came to this completely fresh and fell hard.

I have actually written down my thoughts on the differences between the book and the show (since I have now read the book!) It's quicker to give you a link than write it all out again, sorry! :)

I’ve been like that lately as well, I keep meaning to update my LJ on the latest shows that I’ve been watching, but then I dunno I can never think of anything to say other than it was enjoyable/interesting.

I am planning on checking out Good Omens soon, it seems like nearly everyone really loves it

It was pretty good. Not the best thing I've watched this year, but good.
