Writing Whinge

Mar 30, 2017 16:44

Still working on my WIP. Yesterday I managed about 2000 words. Today, I can only manage 200.

This may well be because I think I may have written myself into a bit of a corner.

Don't you hate it when that happens?

I think I'm going to have to jettison the 2000 words, unfortunately. :(

The reason I am not writing much is that I am not focussed enough! But, yes, I tend to write my story as I go, and then do get stuck somewhere occasionally!

Good luck!

I do usually plan before I write, and I know how the whole thing ends. I even know (sort of) how they have to get there. But there's a tricky bit in between and that's what I'm trying to write. :(

That's still 2200 words in two days that I haven't written. So, go you! *\o/*

Corners are interesting, for awhile. Thinking your way out of them (while the paint dries) can lead to the best stuff yet, I believe.

I hope you're right. It's possible I may have to dump all 2200 words, so we'll be on even footing again. ;)

It is, though I may have to dump the lot, due to the whole corner thing. :(

It's often a sign that you don't know enough about some aspect of the story - normally characterisation but could also be something factual related to the plot. Try stopping writing for a bit and really think it through. When you know where you are going you will be able to write again.

It is definitely factual. I have to plan this bit of the story a bit better. Writing on the fly is not going to do it.
