Reveal

Jun 30, 2010 19:16

We've established that we all want the reveal, but what we haven't discussed? Ideal scenarios! Do you want Merlin to tell Arthur or do you want Arthur to find out? How do you imagine Arthur's reaction? Are there any scenarios that you absolutely do NOT want to see unfold?

OT, but you can also read a new USA Weekend interview with Bradley and ( Read more... )

I could definitely get behind some manhandling and angst. I like the way you think!

I'd prefer there to be nudity involved, possibly gay sex. But otherwise, I'm open to all avenues.

... just saying what we're all thinking LOL
Or maybe it's just me

I also like Bradley's idea for a reveal. I'd love for him to figure it out on his own and then take to watching Merlin, treating him coldly but not enough to raise his suspicions that Arthur knows until finally they have a huge, huge fight when Merlin finds out Arthur knows. I honestly would love them to drag it out for several episodes or even have a cliffhanger that would have to be resolved in the next season.

I'm going to be controversial and say I do not want a reveal anytime soon. And by that, I mean that a part of me hopes that Arthur finds out towards the end of this series. There is something about the imbalance of truth in Merlin and Arthur's relationship that really resonates in me and truly makes the series glow in my mind. You have Merlin, who knows so much about himself-about what he will be and what he can/may do-who must withhold the full extent of his personal identity because of the world around him. There is the constant struggle in Merlin for Camelot and his friends to accept him for who he is (even Gaius cannot fully understand him). [Much like someone who is closeted, if I dare say.]

Arthur, on the other hand, is very much the product of the world around him. He is finding out things that he didn't know were in him; he's developing things that weren't there before. The Arthur we have is a half-truth. There's just so much room for him to grow... and maybe he does see things that he ignores. Maybe he finds out for an ( ... )

Oh, very well said! I think that you are very correct. From what JC has said, he seems to agree and be leaning that way. You may get your wish fulfilled, although the way the shows have been running it may be through stranger channels than you imagine to get there.

@through stranger channels...: Oh, yes. And I am sure it will all have something to do with the Big Bad(s). I mean, I am giddy about what they are going to do with Morgana, her sister, and Mordred. I can only imagine how this mess of tension will affect M/A. (As someone who has a fondness for siblinghood relationships, I would like to think that Arthur is deeply affected by what's going on with Morgana...)

I want a reveal. I really, really do. But I'm afraid I will be disappointed when it actually happens so it's not so bad that they might be putting it off. The current lack of canon reveal is such a goldmine for muses. Once it's canon how it all goes down with Arthur and his reaction and their new dynamic, there will be new ideas and plot bunnies for sure, but there will still be a lot of ideas squashed ( ... )

IDK if you've read it, but there's a passage where Merlin shows Arthur his powers for the first time (although Arthur has known about the magic for a while, he's expressed a desire not to see it), and man, it gives me goosebumps.

!!! YES!!! goosebumps. Exactly. I adore that fic. and just... Arthur is naturally awesome, right? Pretty and strong and powerful, fame and fortune and all the rest. But that Merlin who trips over his own feet and has ridiculous ears is has this amazing power? I want that moment of awe for Arthur to recognise it, even it's a split second before the betrayal comes crashing down. but I think Merlin deserve a bit of that 'showyness.'

And I agree with you about the show focusing more on Merlin learning magic and what he can do and why it's not 'normal' sorcerer stuff. There's a lot of depth there that I would love to see.
