Dieting

The evil one who plagues my home (hereafter known as "The Wife"), and I, began dieting. More than anything it is portion control. We are cutting things down to healthier quantities for meals, healthier snacking, not trying to stuff ourselves. Cooking better vegetables and in better ways. Less deep frying, more roasting, and sauteing. Instead of ( Read more... )

First of all, awesome. But 12 lb/month might not be possible, so please don't get discouraged if it doesn't happen. Weight Watchers says 2 lb/week max is healthy. You often lose more your first week because your body isn't used to dieting yet.

Also, I encourage you to exercise even if you haven't cracked 300 yet.

It was actually the second week. I had already been dieting for a little better than a week before my first weigh in. I acknowledge that 2lbs a week is healthy.

As far as the exercise, I live pretty active right now with my job, I run around and am on my feet for 8 hours a night. I probably walk 3 miles a night over the course of things. I am figuring the 300 mark is about where I will start to plateau, and the reason I am waiting is that I want to get to that point and start the exercise to jump start things a bit.

I won't get discouraged, I just plan to give it an effort. One of my coworkers is also a fairly large guy, he just had his first major stroke at 42. I don't want to be like that. Also, I am 2 years away from my 20 year high school reunion. It would be a lot of fun to walk in there significantly smaller than I have really ever been.

I do like the idea of having a built-in way to break out of a plateau. Good luck!

I'd also like to put in a good word for Weight Watchers. I think they saved my life. The photos of me before I started with WW are horrifying.

I have photos of me from before dieting, without a shirt. Let us just say, nobody will be forced to see those. I will however say if this pans out I am looking forward to seeing the results.

My uncle is a weight watchers fan. (or was, I haven't talked to him about it). But his weight also fluctuated quite a bit. I haven't seen him in years but I suspect he hasn't been able to keep it off. My hope is that I am starting early enough to make this change last. So far, the diet has not been difficult. I am maintaining good choices on meals, and snacks. Just have to keep an eye on it.

I lost 30 pounds and plateaued. Now I'm on my way down again. I want to finally stop at -50. I can do it. I just have to be more diligent about tracking everything I eat.
