When I was a kid growing up in The Middle Of Nowhere, Idaho, looking down from a hill at the lights of a city was a treat.

Now the treat is when I can look up and see the stars.

This kid from a small town in Arkansas knows exactly how you feel. I'm certain that it led to my years in the planetarium field, were you can always see the stars.

Yeah. You know what's sad? When I'm at a planetarium show and can't figure out what's where because there are too many stars. I get disoriented. :-/

That's when you ask your friendly neighborhood planetarium guy to show you around. :)

I think every urban school should make a point of taking city kids out to see a night sky free from light pollution at least once as a basic education requirement.

I miss the Big Sky. That was mostly my summertime entertainment was to get out the chaise lounge and look up at the Montana Sky. When teaching on the Big Island, oh WOW. So purrrdy.
