In my opinion, from what I've seen - PhD coursework isn't fundamentally different from Masters course work - there's simply more. I don't think you would have a problem hacking the PhD course work at all.
outotoro is right, there are about twice as many hours in a PhD than in a masters and the Dissertation is going to be longer than a thesis...you can certainly handle it! :)
If you are nervous about it (or don't have a PhD program that is perfect for you) go for the masters now and then look to do the PhD within 5 years of completing the masters...if you do it at the same school you will prolly only need two semesters of classes (about 12-18 hours) and time to write the Dissertation (2 semesters full time, as many 10 semesters if you are working).
