A petition to sign. Like NAO!
This is one of the reasons for why I have, for a long time now, felt embarrassed whenever someone non-Swedish talk about Sweden as this LGBTQ-paradise. Even more so if someone Swedish says it.

Also, I keep refreshing it now because it's so close. And I want to see when it hits 35 000. :D

Apparently they, until very recently, had the same requirement in Holland. So the good changes are spreading.

Forced sterilization of whom? Who is being sterilized against their will?

When you change your legal sex in Sweden, you have to be sterilized. Basically you don't get to keep your possibility of reproduction, because the idea of for instance, legally declared men that are capable of being pregnant is apparently a bad thing now.

Truth is, I've known about this for years. I even have a MtF-friend who I talked with about the whole thing, and she was pretty frank about the fact that she'd never get children.
"But if you keep your sperm, maybe..."
"No, part of the sterilisation is that you don't get to 'save some for later.' That's just how it is."

It bothered me then, but I didn't even think of it as something that could be changed and I'm a bit ashamed of that.

ETA: Pretend there's a serious icon. Goddammit, livejournal!!
