So the first post for 2012.

I guess this would be a post to tell you about my Christmas and/or New Year. Or about my thoughts about the coming year.

But honestly? I just wanna make this post to say that I saw Alien about a week ago, and that I find it overrated. That is all.

Ranting about horror movie logic, probably not spoilery about Alien specifically, but might be. )

If I were penning the prequel (that's apparently coming out this year, but it's not a prequel except that it is) mineral ore eating space rats would be prominently featured. It would be like war of the worlds, except that they would not be saved by the humblest of all God's creatures, but by the most self confident ones.

As it is, the prequel will instead be about scientists looking for the origin of mankind... in space. Because apparently the creationists are right about the intelligent design thing.

Alien was that much of a big deal for a movie made 1979, by todays standards it's overrated obviously. I think around that time people really thought in future they will spend time in space too...and it might end very horrible as well.

That said I'm still way more fascinated by movies from 1920s, like Metropolis...just about epic and probably still is in some aspects.

See, the thing is that other than the horror movie logic, I still think that the movie holds up in terms of look and other such things that would normally date a movie (minus the "we'll all be working/living in space"-bit). The effects are seamless, the sets look really good, and no one is sporting era-defining hair or clothes of what I could see. (Maybe the underwear in the fanservice scene might be a bit dated, but that depends on if women in the late seventies all wore excessively tiny panties or not ( ... )

What if all the cat does is breathe your oxygen and jumpscare you when the alien monster is on the loose?

Then I'll stick to Earth and my Earth cats. I gotta live to enjoy the cats. XD
