I'm going to go see Tintin this weekend. Actually, the seeing of this movie is a largely minor aspect of my weekend to come, but it's still one of the things I'm genuinely excited about. And I don't actually have any high expectations, other than a decent adventure movie with some bumbling comedy, and some nostalgia for comics that did play a part ( Read more... )

I kind of like it when a story has a moral attached to it. :) Sometimes, I think it's good to send a message, however, I also feel like it's not going to be very effective if it becomes obvious. Mainly because we should be entrained, not lectured like we're in school.

Of course, that shouldn't be what encompasses all stories. People are different and should be forced to include morals in every aspect of their writing. There's a place for everything and that includes having a message in a story or not having one. Or not having characters be proven right or wrong. Entertainment comes first.

But sometimes, people seem to want to use entertainment to promote an agenda rather than entertain and that's wrong to do and is so not how to write a story! If someone is just writing a story just to send out a message, then more than likely, they're just going to be too uptight about it, promote the moral than promote the story. I honestly dislike these types of stories. >_< Meh ( ... )

Yeah, I forgot to write it, but just because I don't think a story shouldn't have to have a message I agree with, it doesn't mean I don't like it when it does. :) The important part is to set out to write the story for its own sake, and then if there is a message that can be told with that story, it will usually come out naturally. No matter what you do as a writer, a little bit of you will be in your stories, and that usually includes the things you feel strongly about. That said, one can also start out with a message, and work the story from that, but only if one allows the story to grow organically from the message.

The idea many people have of a smart character being ( ... )

Completely agree with you on all that. :) I'm lacking the words to come up with a better response! XD

Especially if there's a mismatch between moral and story. I haven't seen the episode myself, but according to tv-tropes there was an episode of Family Guy that was supposed to be about why intolerance of atheism is bad, but that ended up patronizing religion instead. As in "it is okay to believe anything, as long as you don't believe in any kind of divinity".

Ugh. >_< It always seem to go that way. In the end, I think everyone should be insulted by those type of stories.

Anyway! The reason I'm so late is that I keep forgetting to ask my Papa about pigs' feet. :) Yep, he's had it and so has my aunt. It was a common food when they were growing up. She said that now, the feet is often the first thing people throw out now, but she has seen it in stories. It's pickled now. I would rather have ham and bacon. I don't like eating meat that resembles the animal it came from! ^^;;

It's okay, I didn't even notice that the "not" was missing. XD I just mentally filled it in.
