Hm. I'd assume the definition of almost any criminal term varies between different legislations.
I only now realised that I didn't really think of rape-as-crime but rather rape-as-word througout this, mostly because I have another friend on my flist that often discusses or links to discussions on "rape culture" and "what is rape?" and such and such. So I've gotten used to think of rape as that thing that's technically easy to define, but often excused away.
But if Assange had "consensual but unprotected sex" with somebody, that's not much of a defense if that's still criminalised under Swedish law, whether it's rape or something else. And whether it's rape or not doesn't make the action itself any different. And whatever crime it is in this or that legislation makes him no more or less of an asshole in the moral sense. *rolls eyes*Yeah, pretty much how I feel about this. I'm not sure what the laws on rape are in my country, except that if you do not have consent, it's rape, if an adult has sex with someone under 18, it's statutory rape regardless of consent. So I'm sure if someone where asleep and someone had sex with them, it would be rape.
Assange sounds like a creep to me. I haven't followed the case much except in passing, but I don't like him at all. If he's taken to Sweden, is guilty and convicted of rape there, fine by me.
