My particular feminist ideology is tied up in issues of class and race as well as sex and gender, so I thought I would pass along this repugnant detail, with a tip of the hat to this post of the ever-eloquent springheel_jack 's:

Discussing the Employee Free Choice Act, which would allow a shop to join a union if a majority of the workers sign union cards (hey, I ( Read more... )

I say you stole my limelight >:|

I also say that this is a damn important issue and anti-unioners suck (except for my dad, he's only anti-union because the union at his one company offered WORSE wages and benefits than the non-unionized store.)

People can be anti-union to a point without Incurring My Ire: the unions have taken advantage of the workers in greater or equal share than the bosses in specific situations, and there has been union-related corruption. Being critical of those who speak for others and calling them out is not the problem The point at which you' start condemning unionization as antithetical to civilization - well, then I take major issue with you and what that says about your business model and ideology. It says a lot about what you value, and while I'm not going to call for his resignation, I'm certainly not going to fund his ideals. I know what Senators my money spent at HD is going to now, and I dislike it, so, no more money, and there you go.

*semi-unrelated rant*

I'm so angry at anti-unioners this month. Recently, our provincial government passed back-to-work legislation for a striking university union. They are not an "essential" service, like doctors or firefighters. They had been striking for almost two months, I believe, and the university administration refused to negotiate with them or meet an appropriate number of times. Whether or not the strike was valid (which I think it was), the fact that the government legislated them back to work BOGGLES THE MIND. So, basically, you can strike for as long as it's convenient for us? I wonder if the government realized that they set precedent for anti-union sentiment in the law. >:(

SO, YES, I THINK THIS STATEMENT BY MR. MARCUS IS QUITE INFURIATING.
