That was the most satisfying ending. I love Stephen a lot.

Much as I love your Sam and Dean (and Jess)--and make no mistake, I love them LOTS--your original character here just blows me away. Outside POV characters are a tricky thing. I think it's really hard to keep them from seeming interchangeable, whoever happens to be on the scene watching the Winchesters, but Stephen is so fully realized and I end up wanting to hear more of his story, about his relationship with his baby sister and his need to hear he did okay for once. Just really, really great writing. (Of course, my favorite moment still probably belongs to Dean, instinctively getting snappy with Stephen over "Sammy"...)

That's ten kinds of awesome right there - I love that you fleshed out Stephen for us. And your last two sentences tell an entire story:-))

How on earth did you give me so many failure-related Stephen feels?

Hahaha that was very recently me and also I am getting an odd mix of support and put-downs re: grad school and ultimate employment in a field I won't hate.

So all my awful science-related failures (you should go to engineering school, pharmacy schools would love you, anesthesiologists get paid 200K a year and have really good hours)-- which mostly translated to "failure to enjoy this enough to picture myself doing it in five years" mean I GET THIS SO MUCH it kind of hurt. SO, uh, good use of fiction therapy? Hugs? Things?

This was a great story but really that was my takeaway. I loved Dean on the phone. And how he cares so little for Stephen, who is such a big part of the story, and how that is perfect but still sucks.

This is so so so perfect. I mean, it's kind of awesome that you already had a fic when I prompted something similar to this. And it just so perfectly encompasses one of the major things going on in my life right now that I feel like you might be spying on me.

"The truth is that Stephen doesn't pity him--you don't pity someone you've known for two and a half months--and he doesn't feel sorry for him. But he does feel really, really bad for him." Wow, that really struck home...

"Sam has this fucking habit of not breathing if he thinks someone's bothered by him trying." This is basically one of my major frustrations in life these days.

Also, the whole bug brother/little brother thing...damn. That feels really accurate to me on so many levels.

Aside from the fact that this has way too many parallels with my life, I also just and to say that STEPHEN IS FUCKING AWESOME AND SAMMY IS FUCKING AWESOME AND DEAN'S FUCKING AWESOME, AND YOU'RE FUCKING AWESOME TOO. YOUR WRITING IS JUST THE BEST EVER.

You're welcome!!! :P Of course everyone loves Sam. He's a muffin.

I just noticed I typed "bug brother" instead of "big brother". Oh well...
