So all my awful science-related failures (you should go to engineering school, pharmacy schools would love you, anesthesiologists get paid 200K a year and have really good hours)-- which mostly translated to "failure to enjoy this enough to picture myself doing it in five years" mean I GET THIS SO MUCH it kind of hurt. SO, uh, good use of fiction therapy? Hugs? Things?
This was a great story but really that was my takeaway. I loved Dean on the phone. And how he cares so little for Stephen, who is such a big part of the story, and how that is perfect but still sucks.

"The truth is that Stephen doesn't pity him--you don't pity someone you've known for two and a half months--and he doesn't feel sorry for him. But he does feel really, really bad for him." Wow, that really struck home...
"Sam has this fucking habit of not breathing if he thinks someone's bothered by him trying." This is basically one of my major frustrations in life these days.
Also, the whole bug brother/little brother thing...damn. That feels really accurate to me on so many levels.
Aside from the fact that this has way too many parallels with my life, I also just and to say that STEPHEN IS FUCKING AWESOME AND SAMMY IS FUCKING AWESOME AND DEAN'S FUCKING AWESOME, AND YOU'RE FUCKING AWESOME TOO. YOUR WRITING IS JUST THE BEST EVER.

I just noticed I typed "bug brother" instead of "big brother". Oh well...
